La Clinica has big plans for extending medical and dental care, behavioral health support, and affordable prescription medication to more people. That’s why we’ve launched Caring for Our Community, a fundraising campaign to bring in $3 million by 2023. You can help connect 5,500 new patients to a medical home, give people dealing with substance use disorder a second chance at a healthy life, and ease access to dental care. Generous donors have supported our new pharmacies, where patients are already getting the medicine they need at prices they can afford. Here’s a look at campaign details:
An expanded behavioral health program, including the services of new psychiatric nurse practitioners. We will expand our substance use disorder program, including the use of medication assisted treatment to help combat the opioid crisis. New psychiatric nurse practitioners, licensed behavioral health clinicians, and wellness coaches will join our staff to support this work. At fully capacity, this staff will serve 1,500 behavioral health patients a year. Read one patient’s story of success.
In-center pharmacies at Phoenix Health Center and the Wellness Center to help low-income patients afford prescription drugs. Early donations to this campaign have helped open the doors at the first pharmacy at Phoenix Health Center, left. Read about services available at the new pharmacy.
A new dental health program in medical centers to prevent dental disease. This expansion will embed dental hygienists in medical centers to provide oral health education, screenings, cleanings, and application of dental sealants and fluoride varnish. The hygienists will refer patients with greater needs to full-service care.
Provide a medical home for 5,500 new patients at La Clinica’s Phoenix Health Center, Birch Grove Health Center, and Wellness Center by hiring new family nurse practitioners. This staff will be supported by new RN case managers, community health workers, and medical assistants. It will also provide the capacity to launch a same-day visit program to support patients and prevent unnecessary hospitalizations.
Why support this project? Your support will enable La Clinica to grow quickly without destabilizing services and will provide the financial stability that’s critical to launching this new capacity. These services will be fully sustainable.
Why support La Clinica?
Since opening 30 years ago, La Clinica has grown exponentially to serve community needs.
- In the last 18 years, we have opened 20 new services in Jackson County’s high-poverty neighborhoods and schools.
- We have responded to community need by expanding to include dental, mental health, substance use disorder, and physical therapy services, among others.
- We have introduced services to reach the most vulnerable, including a dental health prevention program that serves 14,000 children in high-poverty schools and the Mobile Health Center, a 40-foot clinic on wheels that visits community sites.
- La Clinica is a strong economic engine. According to an outside analysis, La Clinica saved $47 million in the healthcare system in 2017, $33 million of that in savings to the Medicaid program.
