What an investment in La Clinica means
Since opening nearly 40 years ago, La Clinica has grown exponentially to serve one of our community’s greatest needs: affordable health care. In the last 20 years, La Clinica has achieved remarkable successes:
La Clinica operates 29 sites in Jackson County
- 9 neighborhood clinics. This includes La Clinica at The OHRA Center, our first clinic in a low-barrier emergency housing unit
- 19 school-based health centers in Ashland, Phoenix/Talent, Medford, and Central Point
- The Center for Learning and Innovation, which houses our staff and community learning programs and La Clinica administration
Our Mobile Health Center is on hold until late 2025; this center was lost in a 2023 fire and is being constructed again. We will open a new location when we begin operating the student health center at Southern Oregon University in fall 2024.
La Clinica has 30,000 patients of record. See our patient demographics here.
How La Clinica saves our community money
Health centers like La Clinica save $2,300 a year for every Medicaid patient served. This equaled a savings of $36,307,123 in 2023 directly attributable to La Clinica’s services. In addition, researchers found that Medicaid patients at community health centers have significantly reduced likelihood of hospitalizations and emergency room visits for non-emergency issues. La Clinica stimulates economic growth in our region. In 2023, La Clinica produced $133,844,315 in economic impact (based on a multiplier of 2.9).
How we’ve built on our promise
In the late 1980s, La Clinica’s founders were inspired to open a health center by stories of agricultural workers who relied on costly hospital services for all their healthcare needs. They delivered their children without prenatal care and put off seeking professional medical services because of cost, suffering needlessly.
Today, La Clinica operates 29 service sites and cares for more than 30,000 patients a year. Community members have access to medical and dental care, mental health services, treatment for substance use disorder, prenatal and gynecology services, pharmacy, physical therapy, grief education and counseling through WinterSpring, movement, nutrition, and cooking classes, and health, workforce, and personal development classes and workshops.
La Clinica maintains its promise to the community: No one will be turned away for their inability to pay.
