La Clinica will open its new Acute Care Clinic, a walk-in center that will improve the community’s access to urgent care services, on Monday, June 10.
U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon and state Rep. Pam Marsh of Ashland, who both had roles in securing funding for the project, will be part of events next week leading up to the new building’s opening.
La Clinica CEO Brenda Johnson says, “We are delighted to open the Acute Care Clinic. This facility will provide timely and efficient treatment for urgent needs, reducing the need for emergency room visits and hospitalizations and ensuring that all patients receive the appropriate level of care when they need it most. We are deeply grateful for the support from our community and our local leaders, whose dedication has made this possible.”
At 7,038 square feet, the new building at 638 Market St. in Medford contains 12 exam rooms, isolation areas for infectious disease, and solar panels for emergency preparedness and energy efficiency. For the first time, La Clinica will offer x-ray services, which are expected to be available by August. Once the new building opens, work will get underway to remodel the smaller existing Acute Care Clinic as a drive-up pharmacy and on-site lab.
La Clinica received $5.8 million in government, foundation, and community support for the two-building project to improve access to urgent care services for nearly 80,000 low-income, uninsured, and under-insured residents in Jackson County.
U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden helped secure $2 million in federal funding, which also received U.S. Rep. Cliff Bentz’s support during voting. State Sen. Jeff Golden and state Rep. Pam Marsh helped secure an additional $2.2 million from the state. The remaining $1.6 million came from individual, corporate, and foundation donors and other federal sources.
About La Clinica
La Clinica offers wellness-focused medical, dental, mental health, and substance use disorder care at 29 sites: 19 school-based centers, the Acute Care Clinic, the Women’s Health Center, East Medford Dental Clinic, a learning center, and six other community health centers. Although its mission focuses on providing access to low-income people, La Clinica is open to everyone. La Clinica was founded in 1989 to serve the primary and preventive care needs of migrant and seasonal farm workers in Jackson County. In 2001, in response to an increasing need for affordable primary health, La Clinica expanded its scope to serve every member of the community. All services are offered regardless of a patient’s ability to pay, and on a sliding-scale basis for the uninsured and low income.
