MIDWIFE SERVICES
Our team of certified nurse midwives, along with a lactation educator and behavioral health support staff, provides nurturing prenatal and postpartum care.
WHAT IS A CERTIFIED NURSE MIDWIFE?
Certified nurse midwives support patients during deliveries at Rogue Regional Medical Center. These are advanced-practice registered nurses who have completed a master’s or higher-level nurse-midwifery program. They are licensed by the state and provide care to patients of all ages, focusing on family planning, preconception, pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum care, newborn care, and gynecology. They also conduct annual exams, write prescriptions, and handle care during menopause and for reproductive health issues such as irregular periods and infertility consultations.
Nurse midwives are trained to recognize early signs of complications in pregnancy and partner with physicians to provide the care a mother needs. They are licensed to order epidural anesthesia and IV pain medication during labor. If a cesarean section should become necessary during delivery, your midwife will not only coordinate your surgical care but will stay with you during surgery as the surgical first assistant.
All of our midwives practice compassionate, respectful, and family-centered care. We promote healthy living and illness prevention through education, empowering mothers to prepare for the birth of their baby and helping them make informed, sound decisions about their care.

Lactation Education
La Clinica’s staff provides every nursing parent with the support they need to have a successful breastfeeding experience.
Many people expect breastfeeding to be an easy, natural process. While it is easy for some, others are grateful for education and support along the way. Our lactation consultant can help every family nourish their newborn.
We offer:
- Breastfeeding support and education before and after birth
- Management of breastfeeding problems such as nipple soreness, latch issues, and breast engorgement
- Guidance in helping maintain a healthy milk supply when nursing parents head back to work and are separated from their babies
- Breast pump instruction when appropriate
- Breast pump rental and referral services
WHY BREASTFEED?
Experts agree that breastfeeding is beneficial to both the birthing person and the baby. The benefits of breastfeeding extend well beyond basic nutrition. In addition to containing all the vitamins and nutrients babies need in the first six months of life, breast milk is packed with disease-fighting substances that protect babies from illness.
Breastfeeding also offers other benefits:
• It protects babies from gastrointestinal trouble, respiratory problems, and ear infections.
• It can stop babies from developing allergies.
• It may boost a child’s intelligence.
• It may protect against obesity later in life.
• It helps the birthing person lose weight.
• It can lower mothers’ stress levels and reduce postpartum bleeding.
• It may reduce the birthing person's risk of some types of cancer.
• It may protect against osteoporosis later in life.
